چکیده

Many regeneration contexts require the presence of regenerating nerves as a transient component of the progenitor cell niche. Here we review nerve involvement in regeneration of various structures in vertebrates and invertebrates. Nerves are also implicated as persistent determinants in the niche of certain stem cells in mammals, as well as in Drosophila. We consider our present understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying nerve dependence, including evidence of critical interactions with glia and non-neural cell types. The example of the salamander aneurogenic limb illustrates that developmental interactions between the limb bud and its innervation can be determinative for adult regeneration. These phenomena provide a different perspective on nerve cells to that based on chemical and electrical excitability.

Preparation of acellular sciatic nerve scaffold and it’s mechanical and histological properties for use in peripheral nerve regeneration

Background: Tissue engineering is a developing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field involving the use of bioartificial implants for tissue remodeling with the target for repair and enhancing tissue or organ function. Acellular nerve has been used in experimental models as a peripheral nerve substitute. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the mechanical and histological cha...

HDAC Activity Is Required during Xenopus Tail Regeneration

The ability to fully restore damaged or lost organs is present in only a subset of animals. The Xenopus tadpole tail is a complex appendage, containing epidermis, muscle, nerves, spinal cord, and vasculature, which regenerates after amputation. Understanding the mechanisms of tail regeneration may lead to new insights to promote biomedical regeneration in non-regenerative tissues. Although chro...

Injuries to appendage extremities and digit tips: A clinical and cellular update.

BACKGROUND The regrowth of amputated appendage extremities and the distal tips of digits represent models of tissue regeneration in multiple vertebrate taxa. In humans, digit tip injuries, including traumatic amputation and crush injuries, are among the most common type of injury to the human hand. Despite clinical reports demonstrating natural regeneration of appendages in lower vertebrates an...

Principles and methods of dental nerve tissue regeneration : a review

Background and Aim  Today, tissue engineering is considered a significant approach in modern medicine, which is why research in biomaterials has focused on the development of advanced scaffolding for regenerative medicine.  Many natural and synthetic polymers with a variety of origins have been used to make these scaffolds or are recommended by researches. These compositions usually have the pr...

Hedgehog Signaling during Appendage Development and Regeneration

Regulatory networks that govern embryonic development have been well defined. While a common hypothesis supports the notion that the embryonic regulatory cascades are reexpressed following injury and tissue regeneration, the mechanistic regulatory pathways that mediate the regenerative response in higher organisms remain undefined. Relative to mammals, lower vertebrates, including zebrafish and...
